Hello! Let me introduce myself, I'm Kayleigh (aka TheSophisticatedShopper) and I'm a Junior at Arizona State University. I'm a Wildlife Biology and Resoration Ecology (Pre-Veterinary Medicine) student that is crazy enough to carry 17 credit hours each semester, including this past school year and the incoming fall semester, have a part time job, and a job volunteering at a zoo. As you can probably tell, I'm not your average "party till you bleed maroon and gold" ASU girl. But that doesn't mean that I don't find ways to entertain myself at school and find ways to express my love and pride in my school.
As an incoming college student, whether you are an incoming freshman or a transfer student, you have to create a yearly goal for yourself. For some, this goal may be finding a group of people or niche that could be possible life-long friends, or even the goal of attending every social event and sports event held at the school. For others, the goal can simply be to survive the year without being arrested or getting kicked out of school. Depending on the goal you set for yourself, I can honestly tell you, it may or may not turn out exactly the way it is planned. But you should "stick to your guns" and push towards the goal you set for yourself.
A word of advice for all of you incoming freshmen and transfer students...find one person that you know will be a good influence on you and stick with that person! I can guarantee you, it will greatly affect the way you work towards your goals. Take it from someone who knows. If you surround yourself around people who constantly ditch classes to shop or can't attend classes due to nightly hangovers, these people can easily affect your mindset and your effectiveness on your goal.
I know this is a lot to take in for the first post, and I know you are thinking, "school hasn't even started yet and you're already warning us of the trials and temptations that college bring," but I tell you this so you can get a general idea about how college really is. Movies and television tend to glorify the "common college student" and his or her adventures, misleading those intending on persuing a college degree. I know it isn't the easiest thing in the world, and it may be harder for some than others to deal with, but when you feel alone and uneasy about college and all it brings, remember that you have me, your devilish minded peer that is here to guide you through it.
Good luck! I'll be with you every step of the way x
Your devilish minded friend,
-Kayleigh
